Destroy All Humans! 2 - Reprobed Review

Destroy All Humans! 2 - Reprobed Review

Following on from their successful remake of Destroy All Humans! (2020), developers Black Forest Games have lovingly rebuilt Destroy All Humans! 2 from the ground up in Unreal Engine 4, and let's just say... Anal probing has never looked so groovy!

The Game

Destroy All Humans! 2 - Reprobed is a full remake, or clone for the aliens among us of the 2006 original for PlayStation 2 and Xbox . Although the story hasn't really changed, the game itself has been completely rebuilt using Unreal Engine 4 and looks, pardon the expression, “out of this world”. You play the role of Crypto (138), an alien from the Furon race and get to roam five open-world environments (Bay City, Albion, Takoshima, Tunguska, and the Moon) modelled on real-world locations, all whilst you attempt to take revenge on the KGB for blowing up your mothership!

Several upgrades have been added to the game (probably by stealing DNA from members of the Black Forest Games team). Firstly a 2-player, split-screen coop-mode has been added so you and another “being” can destroy humans together, this is one of the best parts of the remake and is guaranteed to add many more hours of fun to the game. Other upgrades include additional gameplay features such as an update to your flying saucer for abducting humans en masse and new, stylish outfits for Crypto.

With Destroy All Humans! 2 – Reprobed, the swinging ‘60s in all their glory are back and better than ever, and we for sure are digging it!

Features

  • Show those hippies who’s boss using classic weapons and new technology like the Meteor Shower
  • Explore 1960’s Mother Earth and unload your trusty saucer all over her fictional cities
  • Defend a much larger, much more open world from those who seek to undermine your mission
  • Hoover up humans from different countries and grind them up into DNA cocktails to upgrade your skills
  • Invite a friend over for a twosome and enjoy the full story in local 2-player split screen co-op

Remake Features

  • The most funkadelic version of the comedy classic ever created
  • Rebuilt from scratch in Unreal Engine 4 by the makers of Destroy All Humans! (2020)
  • All Crypto skins from the first game and more
  • Change paint jobs on your flying saucer

The Gameplay

For those familiar with the original you're certain to feel right at home, the gameplay and controls are virtually unchanged and bring back nostalgia for consoles loved and lost. The mechanics are smooth and polished, showing no sign of age-related wear.

As expected from a remake, the missions remain the same and in this sense the game may feel dated to some - gaming has come a long way since the original launch of Destroy All Humans! 2 in 2006. If, however you can overlook this gripe and immerse yourself in the fact that you're an alien intent on destroying all human life on Earth then no other game allows you to play out this scenario better and with more style. Fans of aliens, UFO's and science fiction in general should love the game whether new to the franchise or returning for a nostalgia fix. It’s the original game with enhancements and boy do those enhancements look beautiful.

Destroy All Humans! 2 - Reprobed is a gas, and for those of you too young to know what that means then you may learn something from this restored classic set in the swinging ‘60s. Is it politically correct... No... Does it need to be? Not really... Anal probes at the ready!

Verdict 4 out of 5
