Comic Con returns to Llandudno for family-friendly fun
The countdown has begun to Scifi Wales, Llandudno's premier comic con event held each year at the award winning Venue Cymru and this year the event is building upon the success of previous years with a lots more fun planned for the whole family.
Each year on the first Saturday in September, Venue Cymru opens its doors to fans of sci-fi, gaming, cosplay, comics and their families, for a fun packed day where dressing up is encouraged and everyone both young and old leaves with a smile on their face. This year is no exception with popular attractions returning on Saturday, 1st September including celebrity guest appearances from television and film, on-stage talks, autograph signings and celebrity photo shoots, prop displays, roaming interactive robots, retro gaming, wrestling, traders selling goodies and much more.
Robert Dyer, owner of UK Conventions Limited and the organiser of Scifi Wales said, "It's amazing to be in Llandudno organising Scifi Wales and it’s always such a pleasure seeing the smiles the event brings throughout the day, especially when you see parents spending quality time with their children and perhaps teaching them to play an old game they played themselves as a child. So many people expect comic con type events to only cater for die-hard fans, at Scifi Wales we cater for everyone and it's great to see the number of families who visit increasing year after year. It’s one of the reasons we love Llandudno as a location for our event, plus it's where the whole team behind the event live which always makes things extra special."
Along with new celebrity faces such as Norman Lovett (Holly from Red Dwarf) and Zara Phythian (one of the main four zealots in Marvel's Doctor Strange movie), Scifi Wales is pleased to welcome former guests this year including Virginia Hey (Zhaan in Farscape, Rubavitch in The Living Daylights and also Warrior Woman from Mad Max 2) and Clem So whose career in film and TV is so vast it’s hard to sum up! Robert Dyer added, "One thing we're always proud of is that as well as new guests wishing to visit Llandudno for Scifi Wales, we always have previous guests requesting to return because they not only love the event, but also the town and local area. We see the same with attendees who travel from out of the area to attend Scifi Wales. Many comment that they will be returning for a holiday which is great for the local economy and local businesses alike." In fact Robert reports that many local businesses have also jumped on board this year and are helping to promote the event. Costa Coffee at Parc Llandudno have even sponsored this year's event and will be offering discounts for Scifi Wales ticket holders during the week leading up to Scifi Wales.
This year Scifi Wales is encouraging people to get out and experience comic con, children love the event and whether they are dressed as a Stormtrooper from Star Wars or a fairy princess from their favourite Disney classic, nothing is frowned upon as long as you're having fun.
This year celebrities from Doctor Who, Game of Thrones, Marvel's Doctor Strange, Red Dwarf and Star Wars will be in attendance with more guests still to be announced. Tickets for Scifi Wales on Saturday, 1st September can be purchased by visiting the Scifi Wales website at www.scifi.wales or directly from the Venue Cymru box office on 01492 872000.
