Sci-Fi News exclusive interview with Sarah Louise Madison - Weeping Angel, Time Zombie and now a Vampire!
Actress Sarah Louise Madison is probably best known for her role as a Weeping Angel in multiple episodes of Doctor Who, she has also appeared in Night of the Living Dead: Resurrection, The Amityville Asylum, The Midnight Horror Show and her latest role as Julia in the new web series Cops and Monsters.
Cops and Monsters is a 6-part series with 20 minute episodes written by Fraser Coull, Amanda Kane and Ian Smith. Set in an alternative Scotland 5 years from now, the country voted YES for independence but didn't count on vampires, werewolves and zombies emerging from the shadows, all asking to be a part of everyday society. Sarah Louise Madison plays the character of Julia, a young, seductive vampire who is pulled in for interrogation after repeatedly violating the zone laws within the city.
Hi Sarah, thank you for taking the time to speak with us today. So tell us, how did you come to be playing the role of Julia in Cops and Monsters?
I became involved in Cops and Monsters when Fraser Coull got in touch with me over Twitter and said that he was going to be filming a web-series in Glasgow and asked if he could get in touch with my agent about me playing a Vampire (which already had me interested as I had always wanted to play a Vampire). So after reading the script which I really enjoyed I accepted the offer to become Julia.
Tell us more about your character in Cops and Monsters and what should we expect from the character later in the series?
Julia is a feisty Vampire who likes to get her own way. She’s a bit of a rebel and doesn’t like being told what to do. I don’t think she gets along with many people (or supernatural beings) as a lot of them just annoy her, she believes she is superior to them.
In the rest of the series you get to see more dimensions to her as a character, she becomes a stronger character and you get to see how she interacts with different people (not just the ones she hates). You also see who/what is important to her.
Now you have finished filming the Cops and Monsters minisode "The Weapon", what reaction have you received from your fans?
We have had a very positive reaction. Many have been contacting me via Facebook and Twitter saying that they can’t wait until the series gets released. There are so many questions left unanswered that people are eager to know the answers to. The teaser has definitely lived up to its name by only teasing some information.
Many of your roles have involved you playing scary or evil roles (Weeping Angel, Zombie and now a Vampire), do you enjoy playing the villain, and do you ever get children running from you whilst shopping shouting "Don't Blink!"?
Yea I’m not entirely sure why, maybe I’m just a terrifying person!! I would hope not.
I do enjoy playing the villain it’s such an interesting role to play, to find out exactly why the people/creatures are as evil as they are. I have never had anyone recognise me while I’m shopping, but no-one has run away from me screaming, which is always nice.
You have been travelling the country with the Cops and Monsters team promoting the show, do you enjoy getting to meet fans face to face at such events?
We have only attended Em-con to date which was the first time the public saw ‘Cops and Monsters’. It was very nerve-wracking but it went down well. I love meeting the fans face to face. I have done conventions for a couple of years now and I have met some truly lovely people who have been so supportive. I’m so grateful for their support, it’s really amazing!
We spoke to Fraser Coull recently, the creator of Cops and Monsters about the new crowd-funding campaign to raise money for the main series of Cops and Monsters, why do you think people should get behind the show and pledge their support?
If people enjoyed the teaser, we would be so grateful for a donation no matter how big or small. It all helps. And in return we will try to make an exciting project which will showcase new talent as well as bringing along some familiar faces – the most recent castings being Caitlin Blackwood from Doctor Who, Gareth-David Lloyd from Torchwood and Kai Owen from Torchwood. All of which I am very excited about as I am a huge fan of both of those shows.
So... Tell us something no one else knows about Sarah Louise Madison!
I would love to be a singer in an indie/rock band. I love music and love the thrill of performing to a live audience – even though it’s completely terrifying at the same time.
Finally, you recently said on Twitter that you would love to have the team who work at our parent company UK Conventions Limited be part of your Vampire Gang on the upcoming series of Cops and Monsters, what would be the first mission you sent us on?
I would send you to get all of the ice-cream in the land and bring it back to my lair... Vampires like Ice-cream too you know!
Thank you for your time Sarah, it has been a pleasure interviewing you today, and we can't wait to see more of you in the new series of Cops and Monsters, hopefully everyone will get behind the crowd-funding project and the series will start filming soon.
