Doctor Who Galactic Dinner In Cardiff Raises £20,000

Time-travellers David Tennant and Billie Piper took time out from filming in Wales to wine and dine at a galactic gathering in Cardiff last night (Friday 14 October) - lending their support to the annual BBC Children In Need campaign.

The Doctor Who Galactic Dinner for BBC Children in Need raised £20,000 - money that will be distributed to help improve the lives of children and young people.

Writer and executive producer Russell T Davies presided over a special auction of unique Doctor Who goodies that saw some guests bidding up to £4,000 - bagging themselves some genuine collector's items.

The event was held at the Macdonald Holland House Hotel, Cardiff.

More than 250 travelled from far and wide, with some even materialising from as far as Canada.

The Galactic Dinner was one of a number of events across the country to raise money for a charity that this year will distribute more than £2.6m to support vulnerable children and young people throughout Wales (£35m throughout the UK).

David Tennant - the new Doctor Who - said: "We always knew it was going to be a fantastic event, but tonight exceeded all our expectations."

Billie Piper - who plays his companion - said: "Everyone had an amazing night. Thank you so much to all the generous people who were at the Doctor Who Galactic Dinner for BBC Children in Need for raising so much money."

Menna Richards, Controller of BBC Wales, said: "The Doctor Who team made a fantastic contribution towards raising a huge sum of money for Children in Need, but they couldn't have done it without the amazing support of all those Doctor Who fans who bid for prizes and gave so much money to the event."
