Leather Clad Kate Beckinsale Stays On Top

The fright-fest Underworld left its mark in the weekend box office race for the top last weekend.

The vampire and werewolf flick fought off competition from the likes of 'The fighting temptations', 'Secondhand lions' and 'Cold creek manor' which also premiered for the weekend. The film, which sees Kate Beckinsale in a new vamped up look, also kept the wolves from the door in the shape of 'Time in Mexico', last week's top film.

Critics have blasted the film for a ridiculous plot but the criticism hasn't deterred the viewers.

One cinema going fan told us, "People care more about special effects than the plots these days, the plot doesn't need to be taken from a best selling book to make a film worth seeing, if it just ties all the stunts and special effects together, why should we care? Critics are so quick to shoot down a movie because after all the special effects, theres nothing much to it, but the public obviously think otherwise and they should respond to that!"

As to whether Kate Beckinsale was responsible for a large percentage of viewers, our fan couldn't comment.
