LXG Opens At #1 In Germany, France & Australia
Los Angeles, CA The legendary LEAGUE continues to leap to the top of the box office in its overseas debuts.... In Europe, it has soared to #1 in every major opening market. In its German debut (10/2), the Power of Seven blitzkrieged the competition with a forceful $5,098,263 (706 venues). Sean Connery’s appearance in Berlin for a gala premiere on September 30th fueled more enthusiasm for the German debut. LEAGUE also dominated the box office in France (10/1), capturing the top slot with a formidable $2,566,333 at 552 theaters. LEAGUE rushed to the top spot in Russia (10/2), achieving a majestic $829,458 at 123 theaters, ranking as Fox’s fifth highest opening of all time in that market. In Austria (10/2), it opened at #1 to an awesome $595,612 (75 houses). The Swiss (10/1) were partial to the LEAGUE; the film reaped an excellent $521,638 (66 venues) in Switzerland. In Portugal (10/3), the Sean Connery starrer shined at #1 with a sparkling $362,429 (55 houses). And in Hungary (10/2), LEAGUE demonstrated its superhuman powers, earning a brawny $137,391 at 30 sites. The film delivered a respectable $99,473 at 31 venues in Norway (10/3). In Slovenia (10/2), it reached a healthy $23,711 at 8 venues. In its opening weekend in Denmark (9/26), LEAGUE swiped the top slot from Pirates of the Caribbean, earning a swift $306,811 (60 houses). To date, the film has tallied a stellar $612,152 in that market. LEAGUE continued its spectacular run in Spain (9/5), where it has earned a magnificent cume-to-date of $11,319,940.
The film continues its sweep of the Asia/Pacific region: In its Australian (10/2) debut, THE LEAGUE powered its way to first place with a spectacular $2,106,130 (207 houses). Peta Wilson’s publicity appearances in Sydney and Melbourne (September 29th - October 1st) added even more charge to the film’s results Down Under. LEAGUE has enjoyed a sensational run in South Korea (8/14); the final cume in that territory is a superb $7,031,623.
THE LEAGUE is still sizzling in Latin America: It opened in Venezuela (10/1) this weekend with an excellent $183,963 at 55 venues. The cume-to-date in Mexico (9/12) is a marvelous $5,997,520 in 398 houses. LEAGUE is scoring a strong run in Brazil (9/12), as well; the film has earned $1,971,000 there.
To date, LEAGUE has delivered a spectacular cume-to-date of $51,452,928 (34 markets) internationally. Combined with a US cume of $66,327,144, the Power of Seven has earned a triumphant $117,780,072 worldwide.
LEAGUE’s escapades continue in Bolivia and Israel (October 9th); Taiwan, Italy, Romania and Lithuania (October 10th); and Japan (October 11th).
In THE LEAGUE OF EXTRAORDINARY GENTLEMEN, Sean Connery stars as the renowned adventurer Allan Quatermain, who leads a team of extraordinary figures with legendary powers to stop a madman intent on turning the nations of the world against each other.
