LOS ANGELES... In theaters, everyone can hear you scream... even louder. Twentieth Century Fox International will release ALIEN: THE DIRECTOR’S CUT, a special edition of Ridley Scott’s science fiction / horror classic “Alien” in theaters around the world beginning October 23, 2003, it was announced today by Stephen Moore, President of Twentieth Century Fox International.
For this newly-remastered special edition, Ridley Scott has incorporated several minutes of new footage never before seen in movie houses. ALIEN: THE DIRECTOR’S CUT will be released in Australia, Japan, Mexico, Brazil, France, Italy, Germany, Spain, the UK, Belgium, Holland, Sweden and Norway as well as the United States on Halloween.
Commented Stephen Moore: “THE DIRECTOR’S CUT will give a whole new generation of film goers the opportunity to experience ALIEN for the first time on the big screen. Fans of the original classic will be able to enjoy this gripping thriller even more in its finest form. We are very excited about our upcoming release of ALIEN: THE DIRECTOR’S CUT and anticipate that it will ignite enthusiasm among audiences around the world. Not only was it brilliantly executed in its original incarnation but it stands apart as a timeless classic of its genre.”
Fox released the original “Alien” in May 1979. The film was hailed by critics and audiences worldwide as a seminal work of science fiction, and went on to gross over $100 million worldwide, a remarkable number for that period. The film’s success spawned a film franchise for the studio, with three adventures in the saga following in 1986, 1992, and 1997. “Alien” also launched the career of Sigourney Weaver, whose character Ellen Ripley became one of the genre’s first and most enduring heroines. “Alien” also stars Tom Skerritt, Veronica Cartwright, Harry Dean Stanton, John Hurt, Ian Holm and Yaphet Kotto. The producers are Gordon Carroll, David Giler and Walter Hill, and the screenplay was written by Dan O’Bannon from a story by O’Bannon and Ronald Shusett.
