Sad Passing Of Christopher Reeve - October 10th, 2004

We were saddened to hear of the passing of actor Christopher Reeve who died October 10 from a heart attack. The 52 year old actor was best known for playing Superman and leading the fight to find a cure for paralysis after he was paralyzed in a horse riding accident in 1995. He fell into a coma following a heart attack and passed away surrounded by his family.

Reeve, who had continued to act - including several appearances in Smallville - also directed since his accident. He was determined to overcome his injury and walk again and was a very vocal advocate for stem cell research. He founded the Christopher Reeve Foundation to increase awareness of paralysis.

Last week, Reeve developed a serious infection from a pressure wound, a complication of his paralysis. He was hospitalized Saturday.

No memorial arrangements have been announced as yet. Fans wishing to say their farewells are encouraged by Reeve's family to make a donation to the Foundation.
