Los Angeles Police Officer Matt Parkman is working crowd control at a murder scene when he — and he alone — begins to hear the muffled cries of a little girl somewhere in the house, as the second episode of the American epic drama begins.

Meanwhile, Claire's heroism brings her unwanted attention, Peter comes close to learning the truth about his life and Nathan's powers and Hiro finds a comic book which leads to Isaac.

Peter is in hospital following his flying attempt, and when no one believes him, he learns a few family secrets that he will wish he had not uncovered. On the other side of Manhattan, Hiro finds a comic starring himself written by the prophetic Isaac Mendez and he goes in search of the comic-book creator, with disastrous consequences. Over in Texas, reluctant hero Claire ponders whether to go on a voyage of self-discovery to find out who she is, but this is complicated when the tape of her death-defying stunts goes missing and turns up in an unlikely place.

Niki, still trying to piece together exactly what happened while she was unconscious, finds out that her mirror image is up to no good and embarks on a road trip to cover her trail and escape her past, which proves difficult as she does not know exactly who or what she is running from.

There's also a new "hero" on the block — Police Officer Matt Parkman, who has the ability to read minds, which comes as both a blessing and curse during his latest investigation. Meanwhile, Mohinder's search for the truth about his father leads to a new friend and a momentous discovery, as he uncovers the reasons why his father was murdered.
