WHO Is He? New Doctor Who Named!

Actor Christopher Eccleston has won the role of Doctor Who, becomming the ninth actor to play the role when the BBC updates their classic series next year.

Eccleston previously starred in The Others with Nicole Kidman and in Shallow Grave and 28 Days Later. He will play the renegade Time Lord in the BBC's upcoming 13-part series which may spawn an ongoing series.

Doctor Who was the longest running sci fi series in the world running 26 years until it was pulled in 1989. The series concerns a renegade Time Lord from the planet Gallifrey who travels thru time and space in his TARDIS. He was previously played by William Hartnell, Patrick Troughton, Jon Pertwee, Tom Baker, Peter Davison, Colin Baker, Sylvester McCoy and Paul McGann.

The newest version is written and produced by 'Queer as Folk' creator Russell T Davies and is going to be updated with a grittier, edgier Doctor.
